1900 Pro-Football SMOKER Postcard *NEWARK A.C.*-From Player LEWIS S. CARR Estate. Although largely regarded as a "Semi-Professional" fooball league, the League that The Newark Athletic Club played was absolutely a pro league and in Carrs scrapbooks are negotiations to play for money. Really rare item that was sent to Carr and is postmarked on back 1900. In the same league were other teams such as the Orange vendu A.C. of New Jersey, The Knickerbocker A.C. of New York, and many more. This item originates directly from Lewis Carrs own estate/scrapbook. Lewis S Carr was college/pro football player around the turn of the century and also played Shortstop for the 1901 Pittsburgh Pirates. Later he would become the long time Coach of both Baseball and Assistant Coach for Football at Syracuse University.
