What is Tsukesage Kimono?
Tsukesage is a simplified version of Houmongi, lower in rank than Houmongi and higher in rank than Komon. The characteristic of Tsukesage is that the patterns on the left and right sides of the body and from the shoulders to the sleeves are not connected, as the patterns are drawn so that they all face upwards when worn as a kimono, unlike the eba pattern of Houmongi, where the pattern is added after the kimono is temporarily tailored from a plain fabric. The history of tsukebake is younger than that of other kimonos and was born when the ornate Houmongi was banned during the war. The invention of the Tsukesage Houmongi with its flamboyant patterns popularised the kimono.
